Whether you are a newbie or an oldbie, you may find the information on this page helpful. The net has grown, incredibly, since my first days online. Depending on your point of view, this has been either a boon, a bane - or, a bit of both. No matter what your perspective, it is undeniable that with this growth more and more information, disinformation, and, unfortunately, lots of junk, has found its way online. Sorting through the maze of data can be time consuming and frustrating. Additionally, the information you find, online, is unfiltered. Therefore, it is your responsibility to verify it for accuracy and applicability to your needs. Further, the 'junk' you will find, or, that may find you, comes in many forms -- advertisements, SPAM (unsolicited email, distributed in mass), MLM's ('Get Rich Quick' scams), Virus Hoaxes, Urban Legends, and other such time and resource consuming materials.

The Internet Guides & Resources (Software Sources, Search Engines, Customizable Directories/Portals, Reference, Yellow Pages & People Finders, Web Development, Computer Industry Publications, Hoaxes, Viruses & Urban Legends), listed on this page, are intended to help you use your time more efficiently and to help you avoid becoming a victim of hoaxes and the like.

Other major issues, with regard to the online community, are Privacy, Freedom, and Security. It is important to remember that, with the event of network communications, any information you supply to anyone, can be easily and cheaply distributed, to millions, worldwide. This can be anything from a statement you might post to a newsgroup or email list to an address and phone number entered into an online contest entry. However, sometimes you may be providing information without even realizing it. If you are online, and have created a 'profile' of yourself in your OS or net software, there are tools that webdesigners can use to collect and store that information when you visit their sites.

My favorite for getting to general info (especially, the technology sector/markets, local yellow pages, local news and online events) is MY YAHOO!. You can also play a monthly online investing game called "Investment Challenge". It lets you test your trading skills with $100k in fantasy money. MY EXCITE is my preference for local TV/Cable listings, Movie/Theater Information, World News, NewsTracker, and Reminders. And, MY NETCENTER has an online calculator, Rave of the Day, Rage of the Day, and AOL© Instant Messenger. The setup processes are all relatively easy and, after the initial set up, your customized page will appear, automatically, when accessing the sites (by domain name or login). All sites feature free webmail accounts.
