HISTORY & BREED BASICS I selected the Siberian Husky as April's Breed of the Month to honor my own Siberian, Misty, to whom, in large part, this site is dedicated. However, I want to make it clear to everyone who visits this site, as former Siberian owner and foster parent, that this is a breed that is not for everyone. And, in my opinion, is not for inexperienced dog owners. That is, unless they are willing to put forth the extra effort and maintenance these dogs require. And, further, given the current population of Sibes in rescue, it is imperative that anyone choosing this breed is committing to care for their dog for LIFE. Unfortunately, because these wonderful dogs are often purchased impulsively, or by persons who are not willing or able to provide for the training, grooming, care and containment needs of their dogs, they often wind up the residents of rescues, foster homes, and shelters. Besides needing a good deal of rigorous and frequent exercise and grooming, they are intelligent animals that require significant stimulation and ongoing training. They are excellent escape artists, love to run, could dig to China, if you let them, are rather headstrong and independent, and therefore, can be a challenge to train. And, while they can do fine in warm climates with appropriate accommodations, I personally believe that these dogs are happiest in climates with at least seasonal cold and snow. That said, even if you are not a current or potential Sibe owner, you will find a good deal of educational and entertaining information about these wonderful dogs, in this feature. For more basic breed information, please visit: The Siberian Husky: A Brief History of the Breed in America at the SHCA Website The Siberian Husky FAQ is available in English and French An excellent pamphlet for ANYONE considering Sibe ownership has been written by the Seneca Siberian Husky Club and is available online. PLEASE READ "Is there a Siberian in your future?" The Siberian Husky Standards from the AKC, American Kennel Club, Australian Version at Eschenwald's Siberian Site, and the FCI, Fédération Cynologique Internationale An Analysis of the Standard by Three Breeder Judges hosted at the Kossok Siberians Website |

SIBERNET-LI was on this list for quite a while, but I had to leave about a year ago due to time constraints. I found the list to be extremely educational and helpful.
